Pymble Dance Company

The Pymble Dance Company is an extension program offering specialised training and industry exposure, with a strong focus on developing students as artists. The program provides opportunities for students to explore their creativity, refine their skills, and extend their learning beyond the scope of regular dance classes.

The program will be overseen by Mrs Pettigrew and, excitingly for 2026, students will be led by Miss Lucy Eaton. Pymble Dance staff and external industry professionals from a range of styles will be invited to work with the company ensuring students benefit from a dynamic learning experience tailored to the company’s artistic goals.

The program will offer focused dance training in a Company-style structure. This is a rare opportunity to learn a full-length repertoire, build a portfolio of professional headshots, dance portfolio images, a work-reel or concept-video, be involved in poster and program production for an athletic Dance work in a Contemporary fusion style and receive written biographies. Repertoire will be built during the weekly sessions and dancers will learn and perfect ensemble-work, trios, dos and possibly solos. Students will be coached in specialised nutrition and conditioning to support lengthy performances. Outside of learning this work, students will learn from a range of guests in various dance styles. These are essential industry experiences which improve employability in the dance sector. The program is designed to reintroduce dance at it's creative and athletic peak, and expose students to a Company process from start to finish.

Training & Development
As an extension of our existing dance program, the company offers students the chance to refine and expand their skills beyond what is covered in regular classes. This additional training ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the dance industry.

For students serious about pursuing dance as a profession, the Pymble Dance Company will act as a crucial stepping stone, providing the training, connections, and experience necessary to succeed in the industry.

School Representation
The company will perform a short full-length work choreographed by the Company choreographer with contributions from guests, as well as an excerpt of the work at Showcase.

Holistic Growth
Participation in the company goes beyond technical training. Students will develop creativity, discipline, and teamwork—qualities essential not only for success in dance but in life. Students are rarely presented with the opportunity to learn a work that is reflective of the demands of the professional dance industry.

Industry Exposure
Through the Pymble Dance Company, students will gain real-world industry experience, offering invaluable exposure for those pursuing a professional dance career.

Beyond dance, being a part of the company will help students develop important life skills such as time management, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Selection Process

Students will be selected through a comprehensive audition process that assesses their technical ability, creativity, and commitment to dance. Company will be by invitation only.

Auditions will take place during the Performance Stream Audition Day — Juniors on Friday and Secondary on Monday — where students will be observed by Dance Staff.

All selected members will be expected to demonstrate a positive and responsible approach to their academic studies. 

Eligibility

The Pymble Dance Company is designed for dedicated and passionate students who aspire to pursue dance at a higher level, gain exposure to the professional industry, and create themselves as an artist. Year 7 to 12. Younger applicants may be invited to apply. 

2027 COMPANY: 

• Students must be in either 1x Ballet Class or 1x Performance Stream class (White, Scarlet, Navy / Hip Hop Crew) 

Inclusions

In addition to the weekly lessons (Term 1 - 4) the Company members will have access to the following support and opportunities:

Dance Portfolio: Each Company dancer will finish 2027 with a portfolio usable for real-world auditions; comprising headshots, dance portfolio photos, a work reel, a biography and other dancer-details.

Mentoring: Company members will be mentored by Key Dance Staff throughout the process. Company members will have rehearsal sessions with mentor to assist them in refining their repertoire and develop their artistry.

The Space TV Subscription: Each Company member will be provided with access to The Space TV Online Dance Class App The Space TV 

Dance MasterClass Subscription: Each Company member will be provided with access to Dance MasterClass subscription Dance MasterClass 

Wellbeing: Company members will have an opportunity to learn from Guest presenters about health and wellbeing as a dancer including a Nutritionist and Physiotherapist.

1. What styles of dance are taught?

The 2027 program offers training in current Contemporary Dance practice. The program is designed to be comprehensive, covering both technique and artistry.

2. How often are classes held?

The Pymble Dance Company runs throughout the school year.  Term's 1 - 4 will include 1 x 1.5 hour regular weekly class. Additional workshops, masterclasses, and rehearsals may be scheduled depending on upcoming performances and projects.

3. How does the Pymble Dance Company differ from regular dance classes?

The Pymble Dance Company is an advanced, extension program offering specialised training, industry connections, and a focus on preparing students for potential careers in dance. It provides students with opportunities to create and develop themselves as artists, going beyond the scope of regular dance classes.

4. Can I be considered for the program if I do more competition groups at an external dance school ?

This opportunity is currently only open to students who choose to represent the College in two or more selective dance groups. 

4. Who will be the Teacher/s of the Pymble Dance Company ?

A Key Dance Staff member will guide the Dance Company and manage the program structure. Pymble Dance Staff and external industry professionals will be invited to work with the company to best suit the needs and objectives of the selected group.
