Pymble Ladies’ College is pleased to continue the Solo Dance Program in 2026 following the success of its first year. Offered through the Pymble Dance Department, this invitation only program is available exclusively to students who are members of the Pymble Dance Company and who demonstrate exceptional technical skill, artistry, and commitment to their dance training.
Students are selected through a formal selection process and, if invited, will work one on one with a Pymble Dance staff member to create a three minute solo. The program includes an initial three hour choreography learning session, followed by a scheduled weekly 45 minute solo coaching session to support the ongoing development and refinement of the work.
Selected students may choose to enter their solo into external eisteddfods and dance competitions throughout the year, with participation organised at the discretion of the student and their family. This program provides students with the opportunity to refine performance quality, develop artistic individuality, and represent Pymble Dance at an advanced level.
Participating in a solo for upcoming Eisteddfods provides an opportunity to extend performance skills in a professional and competitive context. Students develop confidence, stage presence and technical refinement, while receiving individualised coaching and constructive feedback from experienced choreographers.
To confirm participation in a solo for eisteddfods, students are required to contact the Dance Department dance@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au. This will secure a place in the Solo Dance Program and allow planning and scheduling to commence.
Once participation has been confirmed:
A short discussion will be arranged to determine the preferred genre of the solo (e.g. contemporary, lyrical, jazz, ballet).
Based on the chosen genre, as well as the student’s individual strengths, style and goals, a suitable teacher or choreographer will be allocated.
Rehearsals will then commence, with students working closely with their coach to develop and refine their solo for performance.
This process ensures students are supported by the most appropriate staff and are well prepared to represent the College at eisteddfods with confidence and professionalism.
Solo lessons will be scheduled individually and will vary depending on the student, choreographer availability, and the needs of the work. Each student will engage in ongoing solo coaching sessions with Dance staff at the College to develop and refine their choreography.
In addition to competing at selected eisteddfods, students may have further opportunities to perform their solo work at College events. These performances provide valuable stage experience and allow students to share their progress with the wider school community.
