They often have a competitive application process but the programs can offer amazing opportunities to put on your resume such as research, international study, and leadership skills! Be sure to make note of the application deadlines, many opportunities have deadlines early in the school year, and require letters of recommendation and other forms.
Campus Fly-In programs
There are also free college campus visit programs for underrepresented students. For example, the University of Denver hosts the Pioneer Prep where Black/African American or Latinx high school students visit campus for 2 days and learn about the campus, academics, college application process, financial aid, and more. Pre-College Programs are residential programs where students get to explore campus, choose to take college-level courses from a variety of subject areas with university professors or instructors, and attend local activities. During the program students get a sense of what college life is like and learn about an institution. They may often include college advising or mentoring services to help students explore college applications and scholarships. Some programs offer scholarships (merit and/or need) to help offset or cover the cost of attending.
