ACT/SAT information

What is the ACT and the SAT?

Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions and/or merit-based scholarships and generally test similar content.  Please note that Horizon HS is not a national testing center for the SAT or the ACT. However, all juniors are administered the ACT in the spring. If a student wants to take it earlier or during junior year summer, they must register and pay online by the registration deadline. 

ACT uses a score range of 1 to 36. Tests in Reading, English, Math, and Science Reasoning (Essay is optional). 

SAT uses a score range of 400 to 1600.  Tests in Reading, Math, and Writing & Language. 

What is the PSAT - The PSAT is a practice exam for the SAT and the first step in the process for becoming a National Merit Scholar. All students are encouraged to take the PSAT but will be required to pay a nominal fee. https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10

SCORES: If you have already taken the ACT or SAT, colleges may require an official score report. 

ACT scores - students must log in to their MyACT account. Most Juniors create this when they take the ACT in spring of Junior year. If you need to reset it, you need to contact ACT. 

SAT scores - students must log in to their account and complete steps to request scores be sent to a college.
