Thailand, has extremely strict laws called lese-majeste, under which people can receive severe punishments for insulting its monarchy. Lese-majeste complaints can be filed by anyone, against anyone. Do not write or say anything negative about the Thailand's monarchy.
Stand to Attention: There will be occassions when you are expected to stop, be silent and stand to attention when the Thai national athem is played. Throughout our Prem Campus the national athem is played every weekday morning at 7.55a.m. Please show your respect by standing still and not speaking. Similar, this may occur in other outdoor areas and before a movie is shown at the local cinemas. Please follow others to avoid causing offence.
Remaining in Thailand beyond the date permitted on your visa carries penalities. Potentially you could be fined 500 baht for each day you overstay and up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. There are more serious penalities including being banned from re-entering Thailand.
Tourist and foreign expats are required to carry their passport with them at all times. Many people carry a colour photocopy of their passport (photo page and Thai Visa page) to avoid the risk of losing their passport.
The legal age for purchasing and consuming alcoholic beverages in Thailand is 20 years of age. Alcohol sale hours in Thailand are between the hours of 11:00 - 14:00 and 17:00 - 00:00.
Drinking and Driving is illegal in Thailand and getting caught will result in a day in court, fine and a night in the cells.
Drugs (Except Cannabis, which has changed recently) are illegal in Thailand. The punishments can be harsh.
