Mathematics & Statistics @ Pt England School
NZ Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
By the End of Year 8 our students will across a range of meaningful contexts be able to problem solve, discuss and explain their strategies both mathematically and statistically and be effective communicators and collaborators in a variety of contexts at Level 4 of the Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum.
Overview and Coverage Chart is adapted according to Inquiry so that Maths can be integrated when appropriate.

Every class has at least 4 hours of maths each week usually in the middle block of the day.
There varies depending on the age, stage and needs of the children, and the time of the year as there is a lot of time spent establishing group/class norms at the beginning of the year.
Planning and teaching is based on the information gained from regular and ongoing formative assessment along with analysis of data.
