Start a Journal

Children may draw pictures or write words in response to daily prompts. You may use a notebook or loose pieces of paper. Children may design a cover for their journals.

Ideas for Daily Journaling:

Week 1

  • This Is Me- child may draw a picture of him/herself. Include a few sentences to describe him/herself
  • I Like Me- child may journal 5 or more reasons s/he loves him/herself.
  • My Family- List the members of your family. Tell something special about each family member.
  • My favorite thing to do at home is....

Week 2

  • I am talented!- Journal about a special talent that you have. Show your special talent to someone at home! Maybe you can even have a talent show. Remember EVERYONE has a special talent!
  • My Hero- Journal about someone you look up to. Explain what it is about that person that makes them your hero. Explain what qualities that you already have that make you similar to your hero!
  • Sometimes I get bored- We all get bored sometimes! Brainstorm some ideas with your family about what you can do together or individually when you feel bored. Make a poster and hang it in your family room as a reminder!
  • When I Feel Sad: List or draw somethings that you can do to cheer up when you are sad.
  • My favorite thing to do is... When I do this activity, I feel....


Make a "Me" Collage

  • Help your child to collect pictures, stickers, magazine clippings, drawings that represent things s/he enjoys or is good at.
  • Have your child organize everything that has been collected and glue to a piece of paper.
  • Have your child share his/her collage with family members.
