Grade 6/7 students created presentations as either a truffula forest manager, The Lorax, a swamee-swan or a humming-fish that urged others to use our natural resources responsibly and not to pollute.
Our Steps:
This activity is going to be completed in 4 parts:
1. Watch Movie or Read the book as a class. Filling in the listening questions.
2. Choose a Project and complete the questions on Conservation.
3. Plan your Presentation.
4. Record your presentation to your profile on See Saw using an iPad.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” - The Once-ler
Part 1 of the activity included tracking individual water use. Students found out that they actually use a large amount of fresh water each day. Those 30 min. showers add up!
Students compared Canadian freshwater usage to usage in a variety of other countries. Students quickly learned that some people in the world don't have a choice but to use contaminated water, and even then they still don't have enough.
Science 7 - Ecological Footprint
For this activity, that is associated with the Ecosystems and Interactions unit in Science 7, students were asked to compare the Ecological Footprints of Canada's Indigenous People, the early settlers, and themselves. They were asked to look at ways that they could reduce their own footprint to live a more sustainable life. Majority of the students recognized that the Indigenous People lived far more sustainable lives in the past. These are a couple of exemplars.
