To accompany our Learning from the Land focus we built Indigenous Flutes that will be used in our Music Program. In December the Grades 6-9 students built the Indigenous flutes following a step by step process and were introduced to the science behind why they make their unique sound.
Under supervision holes were drilled of various sizes to ensure that the flutes create the correct sounds so they are tuned in the A minor key.
Any extra plastic spots needed to be shaved off the bird to ensure they do not affect the sound of the instrument.
The bird and nest are fixed to the flute tube using some leather strapping giving them their unique look.
