Accident and Injury Policy
The safety of your child is my main priority and every measurement will be taken to ensure they are protected from hurting themselves. Although, accidents do happen and the following information details how an incident will be dealt with:
- I will reassure the injured child while making sure that the other children in my care are safe. This may mean strapping a baby in a pushchair or highchair and sitting an older child where they can be seen.
- I will assess the level of the child’s injuries and will carry out any first aid procedures that are essential and that I have been trained to do
- If necessary I will call for medical support/ambulance.
- If I need to accompany or take a child to hospital, I will either take the other children with me, or call my emergency back-up cover (these details can be found on the contract and emergency contact form).
- I will contact you to inform you of the accident and if needed ask you to collect your child or to meet us at the hospital.
Any other children who are in my care but were not involved in the accident will be kept safe at all times. If needed, I will contact my emergency contact to help provide the best care for the non-injured children, if necessary.
I will record every accident, however minor, in a ‘bump’ book. The full details of the accident will be recorded; including, where, when and how the accident happened. I will then ask you to sign a copy of the entry and will send you home with a duplicate copy.
If the incident requires any medical treatment I will:
- Inform Ofsted (under Standard 3.51 of the EYFS, Inform Ofsted about any significant events)
- Inform my Insurance Company.
- Contact the PACEY / local authority for additional advice/support.
- Contact the local Social Care and RIDDOR if required
