The four specific areas will help to strengthen and apply the three prime areas. The specific areas that also must be supported are;
Literacy development involves encourages children to link sounds and letters together and to begin to read and write. Children in my care will be given a wide range of reading books, activity books, poems and pencils and paper to engage their interest.
Mathematics this will involve providing children with lots of opportunities to develop and improve their counting, understand and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems, to describe shapes, spaces and measures. Children will have access to lots of number games, sorting cubes, shape jigsaws etc.
Understanding the world involves helping children to understand and make sense of the physical world and their community around them, by giving children the opportunity to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment. I will provide lots of cause and effect toys (wet/dry, light/sound etc), as well as lots of trips outside to collect nature items and to learn about their community.
Expressive arts and design involves allowing children to explore and play with a large range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities such as art, music, movement, dance, role-play and design and technology. I will ensure children are given lots of opportunities to listen to appropriate music, sing songs and dance as well as take advantage of the role play materials I have.
