I have decided on a few simple house rules for the children and I, this is to help us all work and play together, happily and safely. They are visible for the children to see at all times, both in words and pictures. I talk to the children about these rules so they understand why they are there. I help young children to implement them from as soon as they arrive.
The rules are mainly there to ensure the safety of everyone in the home and to help children to understand how to learn to respect each other and other peoples property. I assume the rules are very similar to the ones you have in your own home, therefore they shouldn't be too much hard work!
- We sit at the table to eat or drink - this helps to prevent spills on the carpet or furniture and to prevent any choking hazards. It also helps children to create a social atmosphere at the table which in turn helps to learn good table manners.
- All furniture is treated with respect - this helps children to not use the sofa as a trampoline for example, therefore prevents them falling and hurting themselves. It also helps children to learn to show respect for other peoples property and to use things for what they were designed for.
- We look after the toys and play with them correctly - this helps to prevent children throwing the toys as it could hurt someone or break the toy. It also shows children to have respect for objects.
- Shoes are to be left in the hallway - this is to prevent mud or other substances being tread into the carpets where babies crawl and we sit to play.
- Everyone treats each other how they would like to be treated - this helps children to have good manners, be nice to one and other and do not hurt each other by physical or verbal means.
- We say 'please' and 'thank you' - this teaches children to use their good manners at all times.
- Toys and activities are shared and we help each other to tidy away when we are finished playing - this stops us from falling over toys and hurting ourselves, it also means that games/toys stay together ready to play with them again.
All of the above has been designed for the safety and welfare of your child; so your child can have fun and learn in a safe, clean and happy environment.
