Please check out the groups that Ms Shannon will be running quarter 2. Groups will be set up based on a number of different criteria:
Teacher/educator referral
Student willingness to join the group.
Groups will start our small - only 3-4 this quarter - as this is the first time in a few years we have done groups. If your child is asked to be part of a group parent/guardians will be notified and asked to sign a permission slip.
Executive functioning is a set of skills that help people organize, plan and control their life to make sure things get done. Teens who have weakness in executive function have a hard time starting tasks, sustaining effort, and finishing what they start.
This group is for kids who - like myself - feel like they can't organize their way out of a paper bag. The group will mainly use the curriculum from "The Executive Functioning Workbood for Teens" by Sharon Hansen.
Teen Girls groups are weekly groups designed to support teenage girls with challenges around self-esteem and body image, depression and anxiety, peer and family conflict, and stress about school and future plans.
Girls will increase knowledge of healthy ways to cope with adolescent challenges and be encouraged to utilize new skills outside of group. The group will be based on a myriad of resources that I have collected over the past 20+ years, as well as focusing on the amazing uniqueness that your child will bring to the group.
The focus of this group is for 8th graders who received at least 2 F's during the previous quarter. We will focus on using our planners, tracking assignments, identifying where/why there is a struggle and being accountable to each other for our grades.
