PPS and Bienestar de la Familia are partnering this school year (2025-26) to provide referrals for Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance to PPS families who have:
1) a Court-Ordered Eviction Letter,
2) a non-court Eviction Notice,
3) or who are at Imminent Risk of Eviction (behind on rent, but no Eviction Notice yet).
Bienestar is only able to provide 4 total referrals per week district-wide, so this resource is somewhat limited and families may be waitlisted based on how urgently they need assistance. However, once families have been referred, even if they are waitlisted, they should still eventually receive assistance, depending on the volume of referrals being processed. Bienestar wants to prioritize assisting families with school aged children, to prevent eviction and possible homelessness.
School Social Workers and McKinney Vento Liaisons are the primary FHS staff who have access to this referral form.
If a family tells you they have received an Eviction Notice/Letter and they are not already enrolled in McKinney Vento, please inform the school social worker Jed McClean and the students counselor about the situation, and Jed will make the referral to Bienestar. If the student has an IEP, please also include their SPED case manager.
Completing a referral to request rent assistance is not a guarantee they will receive assistance, but the chances are usually pretty good, compared to calling 211. That being said, if they don't qualify for Bienestar for some reason, Jed can assist in looking for other emergency rent assistance options.
If you need to refer a family with an eviction notice/letter, please email Jed and the student's school counselor, AND their SPED case manager if they have an IEP.
Thank you!
