At Portsmouth High School, we are a "Run, Hide, Fight" school. As such, we adhere to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI's) response to intruder protocols. In following protocol, all PHS students, faculty, and staff are required to participate in the following Emergency Procedural Drills:
Fire Drill: When the fire alarm sounds, all students shall evacuate the building in in a manner that ensures the safety and welfare of others. They will exit the building to a safe place with their class, at least 50 feet away from the building, and remain with their class until further instruction.
Lockdown Mode: All classrooms and offices will be secured. Teaching and learning will be suspended. Lights are turned off and classrooms should be silent. No student may leave under any circumstances. Instructions will be announced over the intercom.
Shelter in Place Mode: All classrooms and offices will be secured. Teaching and learning will continue. No student may enter or leave under any circumstances. Instructions will be announced over the intercom.
Evacuation: In the event that students must be removed from the school building or premises, they will be moved to the football field. They are to evacuate the building in a manner that ensures the safety and welfare of others and proceed to the football field. They are to remain with their class until further instruction. If necessary, buses may be dispatched from there.
Parents/Guardians are required by school policy to submit the following emergency information:
Home telephone number.
Telephone numbers of both parents/guardians at work.
Telephone numbers of two individuals who will be willing to come for the student at school in case of illness or serious injury, and assume responsibility.
