Mental math is celebrated in this game where students need to know their basic facts, but even more importantly be able to see patterns.
Take the four numbers on a card - use them only once.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide until you can reach 24.
Tell your solution to a proctor using four equations in the correct sequence.
Points are given depending on the difficulty of the card. Penalty cubes are given for incorrect or forgotten solutions.
Separate tournaments are held in Portage for grades 4, 5 and 6. The top six scorers in each grade go to a regional tournament held in Reedsburg where they compete against 40 other students.
Students are chosen based on whether they can give a correct solution and the total number of points or cards they solve.
