Panopto – How to Copy and Move Sessions

Panopto works in tandem with the Panopto block in Moodle, which needs to be visible and provisioned on the Module Site. It is the point of synchronisation and where viewer access is assigned. If you are receiving access emails, it may either relate to the block or how the video has been inserted.

By following the steps below, it will ensure that access issues when viewing are kept to a minimum. However, should you still find them occurring, please contact the elearn team (elearn@port.ac.uk) with the video in question and we can investigate it specifically.

Once you have recorded a Panopto video, the folder location is very important. A video inherits it's access rights from where it is placed. We would recommend that when you share or embed it in Moodle, that it is from a place that is accessible to those who need to view it. Best Practise would always be to keep a copy in the Moodle folder, whether that is selecting that folder at the point of video creation or creating a copy from a video stored in your 'My Folder' (the default location). It is a very straight forward process to do this and following the steps below will ensure your video are accessible to viewers.

Step 1

From 'My Folder' in Panopto, tick the video you require to be copied and moved to another Moodle module folder and then click 'Copy'.

Step 2

From the drop-down Folder Menu, select the Moodle module folder you require the copied video to sit in. You can also type it in if you have access to numerous folders.

Once you have selected the relevant Moodle module folder, click Copy.

Your video will now have been copied and moved – your original copy will remain within your My Folder.

Step 3

Visit your Moodle module and when inserting content, it will display the Module site folder first. If you have copied your video successfully you should see the video displayed and there for do not need to select your My Folder. This will also help preserve your original video in your My folder area and keep it private.
