Download the App

You should first download the app from the Google Play Store, or the App Store on iOS, and install it on your mobile device.

  1. Log in to the App

Launch the app on your mobile device and log in using your university email address. You should be taken directly to port.cloud.panopto.eu. (If you are asked to choose a site, choose port.cloud.panopto.eu). You should then log in to UoP SSO using your usual University details.

2. Navigate the App

After logging in to the app you will see three icons at the bottom of the screen. These icons correspond to the app's three main sections: Home, My Stuff, and Browse.

Home - see the same sections as you would on your Panopto homepage, such as What's New, and Featured Videos.

My Stuff - Sections include: Shared with Me, Recently Watched, Bookmarked, and My Folder. The videos that appear on this tab directly relate to your activity on Panopto.

Browse - Your Panopto folder directory.

3. View and search for videos

By entering keywords in the search bar at the top of the app, you can use Panopto's Smart Search feature to look for videos, folders, and content that matches the keywords.

Once you have selected content you want to view, it will appear in the video viewer. The player controls allow you to change the speed of the video or turn on captions if available.

To have a full-screen experience on your device, Panopto recommends holding your device horizontally, as demonstrated in the following screenshots.

Depending on the permissions of the video you can also download a video, or access its direct link, by selecting the three vertical dots on the video's preview image. Once selected, a pop up menu will appear allowing you to copy the link or download it to your device.

4. Record or Upload a Video

Note: You will only be able to record and upload videos if you have Creator access to Panopto. Creator access is the equivalent to Lecturer access on Moodle and both are syncronised. If you have any queries about your role in Panopto, contact elearn@port.ac.uk.

In the app, press the circle plus + icon from the lower-right corner. A pop up menu will appear at the bottom of your screen. Select Upload and Record. A new window, Upload and Record, will appear.

From the dropdown menu at the top, select the folder to which you want to upload or record your video. Then select Choose video or audio files.

Once you have finished recording, or have selected the file you want to upload, your video upload will take place and process. A green check mark will appear next to the video once the upload is complete. If you recorded a new video, you can name it by simply tapping on the device-provided name in this window and typing in the new name.

Note: It is important that you stay on this screen until your upload(s) are complete.
