Panopto Block in Moodle

A prerequisite to using Panopto within a particular course in Moodle is that you must have lecturer access on the Moodle site you wish to add content to. Moodle and Panopto systems require the Panopto Block to be added to your Moodle site for synchronisation of content.

******PLEASE NOTE******

Within Moodle, the Panopto block loads after the contents of the page. Multiple embedded items (Panopto or otherwise) can cause the page to load slower and subsequently you may receive access requests if users try viewing before synchronisation. Ways to work round this are to add the Panopto Video Activity, embed within a book, or to change the sharing setting of the video to "Anyone at the Organisation with the Link" (see sharing page for guidance).

Online Guide

Below is some guidance on how to add the Panopto block to your Moodle site. However, please contact your faculty Online Course Developer or elearn (elearn@port.ac.uk) if you need support in this process.

Step 1

Within the Moodle Module, turn editing on. If not already open, open the site menu by clicking on the burger icon in the top-left-hand corner of your screen.

Step 2

From the bottom of the Site menu, select Add a block.

If it is not visible, please contact eLearn to check your access level within the site.

Step 3

Select Panopto from the Add a block menu.

Step 4

Your Panopto Block will instantly appear docked on the right-hand side of the page.

Once the block has been added, you will need to click Provision Course. This will effectively create the folder for your Moodle site in Panopto. Once the site has been provisioned, you will see any Live Sessions taking place as well as any Completed Recordings. It also gives links to download the recorder for both Windows and Mac. Once the block is in place, users enrolled on the Moodle site will automatically be assigned permissions for the corresponding folder in Panopto.

Note: This only needs to occur once and we would recommend it take place at the annual rollover or at creation of the Moodle site.

If you have any difficulties using Panopto, please don’t hesitate to contact elearn@port.ac.uk
