We expect our students to be professional, hardworking and proactive. The student should contact their educator prior to the placement to introduce themselves and ask about any pre-placement preparation required. Please recommend any books, articles or other resources you feel would be useful for them to look at if appropriate. Student are provided with a placement handbook outlining expectations during placement activities, this handbook can be accessed at the bottom of this page.
It is expected that students will do further reading during the course of the placement. Please feel free to direct the student if needed. It is also expected that they will carry out formal reflections during their placement. The student will choose to reflect on anything felt to be important during their placement, for example a particular patient or treatment, an interaction with the team or a service improvement. They may use some of the reflection resources provided by the CSP or their own methods. Please feel free to recommend any reflection styles you feel may be useful.
We encourage students to complete a presentation or project at the end of each placement, it is up to each placement provider as to if this is appropriate in their place of work or not. Placement providers or the student can choose the topic of presentation or project, alternatively the work can reflect the topic of that placement (i.e. Communication, Patient-Centred Care, Multi-disciplinary Team Working, Complex Cases or Leadership).
If you have any concerns about a student’s conduct, professionalism, timekeeping or any other concern please do not hesitate to get in touch straight away. Contact details are on the last page and each student will also have a named visiting tutor.
Further information about what the students will have studied prior to each placement can be found under each of the tabs in this section
