Our course structure is changing from January 2025. For students who started the programme prior to January 2025 the structure be similar to that detailed below (there may be slight variation to week numbers year on year).
The information above the thick black line shows the progress of students through their first year, with taught modules and placement blocks in green and orange respectively. Below the black line is the outline of the second year. As you can see, students spend a large proportion of this second year working on their dissertation projects.
Following this structure, students undertake five six-week placements.
For students who start the programme from January 2025 onwards the structure be similar to that detailed below (there may be slight variation to week numbers year on year).
The information above the thick black line shows the progress of students through their first year, with taught modules and placement blocks in green and orange respectively. Below the black line is the outline of the second year. As you can see, in the second year the students study two long, thin modules. The Complex Cases module focusses on putting together all of their knowledge so far in to the contact of patients and clients with multiple pathologies and potentially complex social situations. The Research Development and Practice module is where students learn about research in healthcare and physiotherapy. They also complete a dissertation project.
Following this structure, students undertake an initial two-week placement. It is up to individual placement educators on whether they think that this placement would work best as an observational placement or if the student can gain hands-on experience too (this may also depend on the individual student as they often come to the programme with a wide range of backgrounds and experience). We encourage educators to allow students to get hands-on if at all possible. The subsequent four placements are each seven weeks long.
