Dear Families,
Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend and a great time at Pumpkin Patch and Homecoming! We had a short but jam packed week of fun and are gearing up for a full week of learning. As a reminder, this Saturday, October 24 from 5:00-7:00pm is the Lower School Haunted House!
An important note: To ensure all emails are seen as soon as possible, please make sure both Ms. Katherine and Ms. EJ are included as recipients.
Last week we:
finished decorating our large letter A by printing with apples.
continued to learn about apples! We taste tested 4 different kinds of apples (Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Pink Lady), described the taste and feel of each, and found out which one was the most popular. We also learned about the different parts of an apple and began creating our own apples out of paper and real apple seeds. Finally, we worked together to make apple sauce!
welcomed Rafa’s family into the classroom to share about Colombia! They shared photos of their family and home in Colombia.
continued our mixed media mirror and art project inspired by the book I Like Myself! worked on a mixed media mirror and art project.
welcomed our next Mystery Reader into the classroom! Ms. Rivizzigno joined us on Thursday morning and read Every Little Thing (Three Little Birds) by Bob and Cedella Marley.
celebrated Crazy Sock Day!
This week we will:
continue our Letter of the Week unit by learning about the letter B!
continue learning about Colombia as part of El Mes de la Herencia Latina. We will learn about Cumbia and go on an emerald hunt around the school with Ms. Ely.
finish our mixed media mirror and art project inspired by the book I Like Myself! worked on a mixed media mirror and art project.
finish creating our paper apples.
begin to talk about Families and what makes each family special and unique.
welcome our next Mystery Reader into the classroom!
We would love your help in facilitating the morning routine each day! When students come in each morning they should:
put their backpack and jacket away in their cubby
put their water bottle on the fridge (and snack on the counter if they have it)
use (or try) the bathroom and wash their hands
answer the question of the day
Thank you for your assistance in making arrival flow easily each morning!
If your child is staying for rest time, please send in a blanket, crib sheet, and/or small stuffed animal that they can use. Additionally, if you have not done so already, please send in extra clothes and rain boots and a rain jacket for your child's cubby.
Please make sure you update your student's dismissal plans each day through the PickUp Patrol App.

POLY PM Winter Enrichment Courses will be shared in Parent Portal on Friday, November 6. Signups for Winter Enrichment begin on Monday, November 16 at 10:30am.
The LSPA November Meeting will be Friday, November 13 from 8:45-10:00am.
There is no after school on Thursday, November 19 because of Fall Conferences.
There is no school from Monday, November 23 to Friday, November 27 because of Virtual Fall Conferences, a Faculty and Staff Professional Day, and Thanksgiving Break Respectively.

As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13 for Indigenous Peoples’ Day and a Faculty and Staff Professional Day respectively. Additionally, Pumpkin Patch and Homecoming are this Saturday, October 17 at the Dyker Heights Campus. Pumpkin Patch will be from 11:00am-1:00pm.

Last week we:
began our Letter of the Week curriculum that will take us through the entire alphabet! We started with the letter A. We learned to make uppercase A’s with sticks and their bodies. While talking about the sounds that an A makes, everyone thought of 15 words to add to our word list. Finally, each student created apple print paintings and decorated a large A that will hang in our classroom.
began learning about Colombia as part of El Mes de la Herencia Latina. We talked about the landscape, people, food, and animals of Colombia! We also read Biblioburro: A True Story from Colombia by Jeanette Winter.
read I Like Myself! and talked about all of the things we like about ourselves. Each student then took time to look in a mirror and share things (both physically and not) that they like about themselves. They then worked on a mixed media mirror and art project.
welcomed our first Mystery Reader into the classroom! Dr. Yasharian joined us on Thursday morning and read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.
went to the Service Learning community time with the rest of the Lower School to hear Harold’s Mom speak about her experience working with Little Essentials.
This week we will:

Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. We are still waiting for a few more family pictures for our family tree! If you cannot remember whether or not you have sent one in, please let us know. As a reminder, the Nursery Parent Social is this Tuesday, October 6 at 7pm. Additionally, if your student will not be in school at some point this week or next because of the long weekend, please let us know.

began talking about who we are and what makes us the same and different. We read Whoever You Are by Mem Fox, Same, Same But Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw, and Mixed: A Colorful Story by Arree Chung.
observed some nature artifacts through art
explored color mixing and began easel painting. We read Mix it Up! by Herve Tullet, learned about the primary colors, and what happens when they are mixed together.
met our 4th grade buddies for the first time!
welcomed Victoria and Adrian’s Family into the classroom to share about Peru! They read The Adventures of Celeste and show some pictures of Peru.

Give your child the opportunity to move, grow, and shine in Disney Dance Party with Ms. Aliyah! Through fun, Disney-inspired movement activities, children will develop coordination, gross motor skills, balance, body awareness, confidence, focus, and retention—all while dancing, playing, and exploring their favorite Disney characters, music and stories.
