Happy Thursday! We had a wonderful week and hope you all have a restful and exciting Spring Break! As a reminder, our first day back to school after break will be Monday, April 6. Additionally, if you have not already done so, please sign up for a Parent/Teacher Conference. You can find the link in the Parent Portal.
Last week we:
continued our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter S! Students thought of 57 words that begin with S, voted to decorate our large S with Sparkles, and practiced writing uppercase S's!
continued to celebrate Women’s History Month by learning about Wangari Maathai and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
did some alphabet movement!
welcomed Vivienne’s family into the classroom for her family share! They shared about the importance of St. Patrick’s Day to their family. Students then created handprint shamrocks!
welcomed Mila’s family into the classroom for her family share! They shared about their family tradition of decorating eggs for Easter and the importance of eggs for Easter in Ukraine. They read P. Zonka Lays an Egg by Julie Paschkis and brought wooden eggs for the students to decorate!

Throughout the year we find it important and necessary to celebrate the different holidays and cultures in our school and classroom community. We would like to extend a special invitation for you to join us in teaching and celebrating a holiday that may be special to your family. Please let us know if you would like to come in and share about a specific holiday that is important to you.
Don’t forget to send in a blanket, crib sheet, and/or small stuffed animal that your student can use for rest time. Additionally, please make sure your student has weather appropriate extra clothing in their cubby.

There is no school on Monday, April 20 because of a Faculty and Staff Professional Day.
The Pre-K Parent Preview is Tuesday, April 21 at noon. More information will be coming soon.
Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day will be on Friday, April 24 from 8:45-11:45. More information will be coming soon.
Our first field trip of the year, to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens will be on Tuesday, April 28.

As a reminder, Spring Break begins this Friday, March 20 as we have no school in celebration of Eid-al-fitr. Additionally, there will be no after school on Thursday, March 19. If you will be traveling before and thus your student will not be in school, please let us know.

continued our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter R! Students thought of 38 words that begin with R and practiced writing uppercase Rs! We had a secret vote this week for what to decorate our large R with and came away with a three way tie of Rainbow, Racetrack, and Rabbits!
continued to celebrate Women’s History Month by learning about Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Celia Cruz, and Marie Curie.
learned about Ramadan!
did some movement inspired by Celia Cruz! Ms. Aliyah taught everyone a few basic salsa steps!
welcomed Henry W’s family into the classroom for his family share! They shared photos of their immediate and extended family and read Trash Truck: Donny & Walter's Surprising Day.
had a blast on Friday wearing our pajamas to school!

Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. We had a fantastic week full of learning and excitement that culminated in Ms. Aliyah getting slimed in our Readathon Slime Time Assembly on Friday afternoon! As a reminder, this week is the Pajama Drive. Please send in new children’s pajamas. To celebrate the end of the drive, Wear Pajamas to School Day is this Friday!

continued our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter Q! Students thought of 11 words that begin with Q, worked together to make our large Q a classroom quilt, and practiced writing uppercase Qs!
voted to decorate the large letter P with Patterns and worked together to decorate both our O and P.
began to celebrate Women’s History Month by learning about Harriett Tubman, Mae Jemison, and Jane Goodall.
did some movement inspired by The Color Monster!
welcomed Theo’s family into the classroom for his family share! They read Room on the Broom and shared about some of the wonderful things they like to do as a family.
welcomed Dash’s family into the classroom for his family share! They shared about their summer trips to Cranberry Island in Maine and read Counting Our Way to Maine by Maggie Smith.
visited the fourth grade’s Great African History Museum. Students got to learn about the projects with their buddies!
voted for our preferred charities for the Lower School Ramadan donation.
celebrated a successful Read-a-thon with a special Slime Time assembly!

The Lower School is again hosting our annual Pajama Drive from Monday, March 9 through Friday, March 13 in partnership with Beyond Bedtime (Formerly the Pajama Program). Beyond Bedtime provides children facing adversity with the materials, education, and support they need to wake up ready to thrive. We support them every year by hosting a Pajama Drive to contribute to a local shelter or organization in need of pajamas.
Please drop off a new pair of pajamas to the school between Monday, March 9 and Friday March 13. The drop off box will be located in the vestibule. If you prefer to order online and have it shipped to the school, feel free to address the package to Sarah Ely, 50 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Last week was unexpectedly short but still packed with learning and fun! It culminated in a fantastic Dress Like a Book Character Day on Friday. As a reminder, please continue to send in winter gear for outside play and make sure your student has extra shoes to wear in the classroom.

visited Nursery B to join them for a visit from Zhuri’s family! We learned all about what it takes to be a firefighter and all of the many jobs that firefighters have.
celebrated the end of the Read-a-thon with Dress Like a Book Character Day!

These visits are 20-30 minutes long and often families talk about a family tradition or favorite family activity, show pictures, and read a story. You are also welcome to lead an activity if you would like. Our available times this year are 9:05-9:30 and 10:45-11:30. If you have not done so, please sign up for a date/time here. Please note that we will be wrapping up Family Shares in March.
