Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Please make sure to send in extra sweaters and sweatshirts, winter accessories, snow boots, and dress students in warm pants this week as we will be heading out for a truncated recess as long as the temperature is above 0°. Additionally, please note that our scheduled time to visit the Used Book Sale is tomorrow, Monday, January 26 at 9am. Please make sure to send in only $1. In the event of school closure on Monday, we will visit another day this week.
Last week we:
began learning about Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about why he is important and listened to his I have a Dream speech.
did some alphabet inspired movement!
This week we will:
continue our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter M.
continue learning about Dr. King and how we can carry on his dreams and beliefs.
welcome Margot’s and Jax’s families into the classroom for their family shares!
visit the Used Book Sale.
Our annual food drive will be from Monday, January 26- Friday, February 6, 2026, to support Grandma’s Love, an organization dedicated to combating childhood hunger in Brooklyn. This year, we are doing a special project with cereal boxes, a highly popular yet costly food item. We encourage families to donate cereal in addition to the other non-perishables on the list. Sign up to volunteer to drop-off by emailing sely@polyprep.org.
Registration for June Camp programs at Poly Lower School will open tomorrow, Monday, January 26, at 10:00 AM. Learn more about Jammin June, Robochef, and Math and Motion here! Please note, space is limited and registration is first-come, first-served.
We are excited to continue welcoming each family into the classroom for Family Shares. These visits are 20-30 minutes long and often families talk about a family tradition or favorite family activity, show pictures, and read a story. You are also welcome to lead an activity if you would like. Our available times this year are 9:05-9:30 and 10:45-11:30. If you have not done so, please sign up for a date/time here. Please note that we will be wrapping up Family Shares in March.
Throughout the year we find it important and necessary to celebrate the different holidays and cultures in our school and classroom community. We would like to extend a special invitation for you to join us in teaching and celebrating a holiday that may be special to your family. Please let us know if you would like to come in and share about a specific holiday that is important to you.
Don’t forget to send in a blanket, crib sheet, and/or small stuffed animal that your student can use for rest time. Additionally, please make sure your student has weather appropriate extra clothing in their cubby.

Winter Reports will be available on the Parent Portal next Friday, February 6.
There is no school on Monday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 17 for Presidents Day and Lunar New Year respectively.

Happy Sunday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend and a fantastic time at Oasis Night on Friday. As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day and a Faculty and Staff Professional Day respectively.
Last week we:
continued our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter L. Students thought of 32 words for our list and voted to decorate the large L with Love. Each student also tried writing an uppercase letter L!
reviewed Looking Like Me by Walter Dean Myers and learned about the art of collage. Inspired by the book, each student then shared what makes up their “I Am” list and created their own collage.
read All the Colors We Are: The Story of How We Get Our Skin Color by Katie Kissinger and talked about how we get our skin color.
did some Lion King inspired movement. Students explored moving like different animals that can be found on the Savannah.
took a trip to Prospect Park with Nursery B!
spent time with our 4th grade buddies!
welcomed Bryson’s family into the classroom for his family share! They read I am Mixed and shared a bit about their family.
celebrated Poly Pep! Day on Friday!

Last week we:
continued our letter of the week unit by learning about the letter K. Students thought of 15 words for our list and voted to decorate the large K with Koalas. Each student also tried writing an uppercase letter K!
enjoyed spending time together as a classroom community after two weeks away! We loved hearing about everyone’s adventures near and far over the holiday season.
read Looking Like Me by Walter Dean Myers and began talking about all of the wonderful things that make us who we are. Students began prepping paper for collages we will make inspired by the book.
welcomed Nell’s family into the classroom for her family share and to celebrate her birthday! They shared about their family’s Sunday tradition of sharing their week’s Rose, Bud, and Thorn.
