Spears or Assegai were common weapons of the Zulu warriors. Each is made from a 60 cm wooden shaft joined to a piece of iron. This metal is beaten into the spear head at the end. The spear head is commonly joined to the shaft using leather bindings. These bindings were also wrapped around the shaft around a third of the way down to provide a grip for the bearer.
Spears were used for throwing and stabbing the enemy and were a formidable weapon in the hands of a trained warrior.
