Zulu Drum

Drums are traditionally used in ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. A traditional Zulu drum has a cowhide drum head and carved around the drum is traditional Zulu patterns and images. The drum is hand-carved and hand-painted in deep earth tone colours and smooth polished.

The image to the left shows the skins of the drums being warmed by the fire before they are played.
