This unit is designed to assist improvement teams as they work to better understand their problem.
Through Unit 0.2, participants will:
Examine their context by completing process maps of their various activities.
Craft an explanation of their problem of practice and an associated problem statement.
Examine the root causes of their issue through a fishbone
Craft an aim statement and associated driver diagram considering the NIRN implementation drivers
Take an inventory of their current capacity
Scope down their project to a 1 year manageable effort.
Through process mapping our activities and systems we can better understand and analyze them to identify how they contribute to our problem.
Improvement science gives us tools to define our learnings about our context so that we may use them when identifying what changes to make to the system.
Through implementation science we can define the type of drivers that may be most critical to achieving our aim.
An essential part of understanding our system is understanding its capacity for change and then scope down our focus accordingly.
“The feeling of being ‘offended’ is a warning indicator that is showing you where to look within yourself for unresolved issues.” – Bryant McGill
