By the conclusion of the implementation units, participants will be able to:
Learn successful practices to improve math instruction for ALL students
Build a customized implementation plan to improve math instruction for students with disabilities
Reflect and learn together to improve our collective understanding our problem of practice
"Some Assembly Required"
The entire series is not meant to be implemented contiguously, but rather over the course of a year or years, to allow changes in mindset and practice to take root at a deep level.
We, the series creators, do not have any delusions that theses are exemplar products and encourage providers to improve upon the product within the boundaries of the big ideas and required mindsets. We encourage those that improve upon the units to send their versions back to the writing team so that we can incorporate the improvements.
While the majority of the units are meant to be done sequentially, the Integrating into Practice: PDSA units can be implemented anytime after unit 2 is completed and can be implemented to various degrees multiple times during the series. We recommend usage of these units at least once, if not after each unit, once units 1 and 2 have been implemented.
Creating Expert Learner Educators
Integrity, not Fidelity
Collaboration, NOT Coordination
These three things require us to Go slow to go fast!
Please see the full implementation guide for full explanations of these mindsets.
Expect controversy, but with civility (we will share what we believe is best for our students and why, using data as evidence)
Respect - Paying Attention to Self and Others (No attacks & No Interruptions)
Presuming positive intentions, while also owning your intentions and your impact
Active listening (Pausing, Paraphrasing, Posing Questions)
Obligation as a group member to provide input while also having the right to pass, challenge by choice
Site teams must consist of:
a Principal or Vice Principal (present the ENTIRE time)
general education teachers
special education teachers.
All three categories of participants must be present from each site; if this requirement can not be met, we do not recommend implementing the series until it can.
