Students at Project Impact STEM Academy set goals daily and meet with their assigned mentor teachers one-on-one bi-weekly.
Provide students the opportunity to build a caring relationship with a trusted adult.
Provide students a focused time to sit down and evaluate their academic goals, identifying both strengths in their learning and challenges and received feedback on how they might overcome these challenges.
Provide students with a focused time to share successes that are happening both in and outside of the classroom.
Here is a document that outlines Summit Learning Mentoring.
(Note: Due to COVID the standard has been changed nationally from once a week to once every two weeks).
Mentoring is an important part of the culture at Pi STEM. The teachers make it a priority. You will notice that this years data has declined, their are a couple of reasons for this: 1.) Two of our teachers were out on maternity leave; 2.) Two additional teachers are new to Pi STEM and mentoring; and 3.) Student and teacher absences due to COVID, paired with in-person instruction. Last year during on-line instruction teachers were able to reach some students for mentoring, that if we were in-person would not have been at school.
