Our first STEM Night took place in the spring of 2019. This event was a Project Expo, Science Fair, and a STEM event.
STEM activities included a marble roller coaster, students running a Strawberry DNA extraction station, Wind Turbine Building and Experimentation. The Kuna Mayor attended and we had STEM community partners that participated in the judging of the science fair.
Our second STEM Night took place in October of 2019 and was combined with a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat.
Our PTA received funding from the STEM Action Center to help fund the STEM activities at this event, which included solar energy experiments, wind turbine experimentation, electronic circuits with playdoh, virtual reality equipment, and primary-age coding activities. The Kuna Libary was also a participant in this event.
Our third STEM Night took place in the Spring of 2020 and was a STEM Career focused STEM Night.
The event was partially funded with a PTA grant from the STEM Action Center and Sparklight. The focus of the event was on STEM career awareness and provided students with engaging STEM activities and engagement with professionals from each of the following STEM areas:
Health Care, Mathematics, Virtual Reality and Computer Science, Meteorology, and Electrical Engineering. The Kuna Library was also a community partner at this event and provided books to students that attended.
Activities included: a cloud-making activity, a SIM patient and CPR dummies; VR equipment; engineering construction sets, snap circuits, engineering challenges, and a room full of math-based games.
See the below news broadcasts of this exciting event.
The Great Dino Hunt of 2020-21 came about after we had to cancel our community STEM nights because of COVID. Pi STEM PTA worked with the Kuna Parks & Recreation to create the Great Dino Hunt. The event was open to the entire Kuna Community.
The Great Dino Hunt was made possible because of donations and partnerships with Lowe's, Wildflower Boutique, Kuna Library District, & Kuna Parks and Recreation.
