Dear Band and Chorus Families,
Last week we made a lot of progress.
This week I hope to spend more time with our concert band on music reading skills. Last week was difficult for them to process because we aren't quite where I thought we were. There's nothing wrong with us backing up and going over a few things, so please encourage your child that if they felt overwhelmed, we will work to fix those things that overwhelmed them. Practice at home will help solidify the skills they learn so they don't forget from week to week.
Symphonic Band, I am proud of your hard work. We made a lot of progress on the Veterans' Day pieces.
With both groups, we are going to change the percussion part in "The Victors" to reduce the rushing temptation.
Chorus, we will listen to the accompaniment track for "It's a Grand Old Flag," and begin working with it. That kazoo part is fun!
This week's schedule:
Monday, September 22 - 3:00-5:00 Chorus Rehearsal
Tuesday, September 23 - 3:00-5:00 Concert Band Rehearsal
Wednesday, September 24 3:00-4:30 Percussion Rehearsal - We will work on a new part for The Victors, our parade cadence, and rudiments (of course).
Thursday, September 25 - 3:00-5:00 - Symphonic Band Rehearsal
Friday - September 26 - Parent/Teacher Conferences - Enjoy your day off! If you would like a private lesson on this day, please send me an email and I will try to schedule you a time.
This week is the opening week of the fair. Usually the weeks of the fair are weeks where we have low participation in band. This hurts us with our preparations for pep band, Veterans' Day, Homecoming Parade, and our Winter Concert. Honestly, that is a lot of performances in one semester and we have to be focused to do it all. If at all possible, please choose an evening to go to the fair that will not conflict with band rehearsal. Thank you!
We are going to have a wonderful, musical week!
