Week of 9/14-9/18
Last week students began to learn about the basic chord, the triad. Using the A scale, students observed triads being built on each scale tone (using the sharps F#, C#, and G#, that are part of the A Major scale). Then students watched a video that showed how a I, IV, and V chord may be used to play various pieces of popular music. Students practiced identifying progressions of I, IV, and V chords.
Students will continue learning new scales from memory this week. We will continue to practice the B-flat Concert, F Concert, and E-flat Concert scales. We will add the A-flat Concert Scale this week.
Students are continuing to work on Fridays toward Band Karate levels with several making rapid progress toward their Book 1 Black Belt.
PERFORMANCE TEST ON THE A-flat CONCERT SCALE ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18.
AURAL SKILLS TEST ON CHORD PROGRESSIONS ALSO ON SEPTEMBER 18.
