Seventh Grade music class reviews many of the elements of music learned the previous year. Seventh graders pick up where sixth grade left off with music of the Romantic period. Some composers that will be studied are: Johannes Brahms, Hector Berlioz, Franz Liszt, and Richard Wagner. Music and National Identity will be studied and the semester will culminate with a study of blues and jazz.

Week of 3/9-3/13
Last week we completed our tempo unit.
This week we will begin our Jazz Unit. We will discuss the beginnings of jazz and the evolution of the genre through styles such as ragtime, blues, swing, bebop, cool jazz, and how the evolution of jazz led to the beginnings of Rock-N-Roll. We will learn about improvisation, call and response forms, and scat singing.
After a thorough study, we will end our unit with a project on a jazz musician. Students will draw names and create a 3-part project:
Part 1: Poster
Part 2: Creative project (something tangible not to be included on the poster)
Part 3: Class Presentation
As we get closer to the time for the project, a rubric will be provided showing the expectations and grading.
