Project Description: In this project, each group had four options of app ideas to make in Thunkable. These consisted of Tic Tac Toe, Outfit Generator, Foodtopia, and Would You Rather. My partner was Neil and we chose the Outfit Generator. By the way, Thunkable is an app development software which uses block coding, similar to Scratch. We were allowed to implement ideas to the app chosen.
Brainstorming: We were inspired to come up with this idea because we thought the concept of generating your attire based on your input was very intriguing and that it could be a solution for many people. Neil had possession of and created the document and did all of the coding while I handled the portfolio, sketch brainstorm, and organized calls, as well as gave insight on how it should look. However, the coding was very difficult. The resources we used were constant emails from me to Neil sending images of the different types of clothing and Google, of course, to access the images. I sent 9 for each category (ex: formal shoes needs 9 images). We accessed every photo on the internet and we put them all into indivdual folders, then Neil put the images into the code.
Procedure: We started by putting our ideas into a brainstorm design sketch.
Then, we created the layout of the app like so:
The Splash Screen, this screen is the one which asks you questions and it calculates the combinations of input that you put in to determine the best outfit for you.
This screen shows three different outfit combinations based on your input to the questions. It gives a top (t-shirt, collared shirt, blazer, etc.), a bottom (pants, shorts, jeans, etc.), and shoes.
Reflection:
S- My strengths were creativeness and communication. Also, organization in Finder with the shear amount of images I had.
O- I could improve on my skill in block coding.
U- I understood the proper and basic steps that it took to create an app that functions and looks good. Also, I learned about the basic necessities that every app should have to be easy to use and visually appealing.
L- However, I encountered limitations such as the lag of the Thunkable code, the time consumption of downloading, organizing and emailing photos and the fact that you cannot collaborate on Thunkable which made me take initiative to organize calls.
WISCR- In this project, I applied a lot of clear communicator skills. I organized calls and asked for feedback as I made the app better. Lastly, insightful thinker. My partner and I had to be insightful and critical thinkers to come up with and code the app so that it could identify combinations after user input.
