This page follows my progress throughout my Caesar Cipher.
Overview:
This was our final 'project' of the 8th grade school year. Our task was to decode 5 different codes using the Caesar Cipher code that we created in class.
Procedure:
In this section I will explain how we decoded each message (Without knowing the key!)
Code 1:
The first code we got was:
Vb. Cajw oxdwm jw xynw pjcn. Bqn rb yjwrltrwp knljdbn qna lxf qjb pxwn vrbbrwp!
After putting it into the regular Caesar Cipher decoder, we got this!:
The final code was:
Ms. Tran found an open gate. She is panicking because her cow has gone missing!
The information we got from this clue: Ms. Tran's cow is gone!
Code 2:
The second code we got was:
Tcwn uckf jg ucy vjg eqy jcpikpi qwv ykvj LJ mkfu kp vjg Ewg Swcf gcvkpi okpv ecpfa.
After putting it into the regular Caesar Cipher decoder, we got this!:
The final code was:
Raul said he saw the cow hanging out with JH kids in the Cue Quad eating mint candy.
The information we got from this clue: The cow was last seen eating candy in the Cue Quad with JH students
Code 3:
The third code we got was:
Tz. Ayhu yljhssz zllpun Tz. Rpun huk Tz. Zhujolg lhapun aol zhtl tpua jhukf.
After putting it into the regular Caesar Cipher decoder, we got this!:
The final code was:
Ms. Tran recalls seeing Ms. King and Ms. Sanchez eating the same mint candy.
The information we got from this clue: The cow is probably with Ms. King or Ms. Sanchez because they were eating with the same candy.
Code 4:
The fourth code we got was:
Awumwvm nwcvl i kivlg ezixxmz eqbp “Kitt um” ezqbbmv vmfb bw i vcujmz: 650806….
After putting it into the regular Caesar Cipher decoder, we got this!:
The final code was:
Someone found a candy wrapper with "Call me" written next to a number: 650806....
The information we got from this clue: Whoever took the cow left this behind, or the cow left this behind. We need to find the rest of the phone number
Code 5:
The fifth and final code we got was:
Zme cuf swbjs cgwfpmy aa sdeo gx goa fv. So otn zbuqe iz. Pb batkkm aw Rs. Yjpjpke’a uohpkk tw mnv pox nabxtpbk svait.
Finding this code was difficult because we needd the use the Muti-Digit Key Decrypter, but to do that we needed to figure out the key. We tried to imput the phone numbers of all the people, but none of them worked. Instead, we just put in different numbers until the code made sense. The final key we got was 6508069278
After putting it into the regular Caesar Cipher decoder, we got this!:
The final code was:
The cow loves candies as much as you do. No one stole it. It walked to Ms. Sanchez’s office to get his favorite snack.
The information we got from this clue: The cow didn't get stolen! It got candy from the office instead!
SOUL Reflection:
Strength: A strength I had in this project was that I had my code ready, and for the first clues I was easily able to input codes 1-4 easily.
Opportunities An opportunity I had to improve my project was that I could've gotten the code using the clues, not just the brute force method.
Understanding: This project expanded my knowledge on Python and Caesar Ciphers.
Limitations: A limitation I had on this project was that I wasn't able to figure out the final clue, so I didn't really solve the puzzle.
WISCR Reflection:
Well-Rounded: This helped teach me a new coding language, Python, which will help me as I continue to study Computer Science
Insightful and Critical Thinkers: Using the brute force method meant that we had to figure out the key by figureing out the scrambled code before we could decode it.
Self Motivated: Since this project was independent we had to motivate ourselves and figure out the problems.
Clear Communicators: Me and my partner, Keira, were able to communicate clearly to figure out each clue.
Respectful Individual of Character: I was very respectful to each of my peers, and tried to help people however I could.
