Description: In this project, alex, wardin, and I worked to create a candy dispenser using Micro-bits that would dispense 5-10 skittles.
Brainstorm: We used a rectangular design with one side for a plexiglass window. It had a open top for easy refilling. We used a servo to create a turning mechanism. we would later add a a funnel to the spinning dispenser. We would also use a funelling systym underneath to catch the skittles as they fell and prevent them from spilling everywhere.
Procedure: We first started by designing everything in tinkercad and wardin created the code. We proceeded to the next step, 3D printing I printed them one by one. However, our first design was too big and I forgot to account for the Microbit servo. I reprinted the build to be smaller. Wardin then laser-cut the walls. However, the cylinder's rod was a little too big and the skittles got stuck on the top funneling system. So, I printed an extra angles to make the it funnel to one piont. On the last day we just needed to glue everything but we realized one of the walls were too small so we had to re do it and somebody stole our 3d printed circular dispenser so wardin had to make it out of wood which took a while. when we were gluing the walls we didn't have a lot of time left and we used too much glue on some parts so it would not dry in time so we had to use tape and when we tried to test the circular part the wood was too heavy for the servo to move and it made the not yet dried walls fall apart.
Reflection
S- we had the project planned out well.
O- We failed to execute our plan Because we didn't budget our time well. We had to reprint a few times because of small issues in the build.
U- This project was useful refining important design skills.
Throughout this project, we encountered many issues that could have been solved through more careful time spending
L- Some things that prevented us from having a better build was the limited amount of time.
I feel that even thought we might not have budgeted our time the best, the fact that we only had ~3 classes to work on this limited our project's detail and functionality.
WISCR- Throughout this project, I think our team embodied the I and C aspects of WISCR.
For I our design was well thought out but we didn't have enough time to execute it. for C I think our team communicated well throughout the project. We were all familiar with each other and were able to communicate freely to each other, which improved our efficacy.
