Teaching Tolerance

Alexandra Drakeford, and Timothy Reid, along with Nikki Fellows and Vanessa Taylor, have been visiting classes in 1st, 4th and 7th grades, to pilot a peer tutoring program on Teaching Tolerance. One lesson focused on Autism and how people with autism are different from us in some ways but also very much like us in other ways. Other lessons cover religious differences, racism and empathy.

Imagine STEAM Festival

Team SPORK joined many other STEM groups in Rock Hill, South Carolina for an iMAGINE STEAM Festival last weekend. At our tent, we ran SPORKReach and helped children learn more about STEM and engineering. We also performed two stage shows, where we introduced the audience to our 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Robot, Super SPORK 64, and taught them about the FRC challenge. We also got to show off Super SPORK 64’s crazy lift and intake mechanics. The best part of our day was being able to interact and teach kids more about STEM and FIRST, which have changed our lives so much.
Thank you for everyone who came out to see us!--Hartley Nason
