Objective - Students begin to connect the act of service to the development of Pine Lake’s core values through a more in-depth exploration of two service pillars.
You should focus on how these service activities demonstrate or build upon Pine Lake’s core values in both the community and you. (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Drive to Excellence, Empathy)
Pick two pillars from previous year to explore more thoroughly.
You must choose 2 pillars and complete a minimum of 5 hours of service in each
Ex 1. Student enjoyed visiting the nursing home. Becomes a reading buddy or checker’s buddy with an elderly resident. Makes commitment to visit on a regular basis (1/week or 2x/month)
Students may explore additional service opportunities in any pillar or stay with their chosen two pillars for their remaining service hours.
ALL GRADES:
Complete 40 hours of civic engagement, through an approved organization within the community, according to grade level guidelines.
Fill out the Service Learning GoogleSheet and validate the hours regularly. Students will download sheet during service learning training.
Use the grade level rubric to complete one reflection per semester.
Summer: Up to 30* hours allowed; 10 must be completed during the school year.
Recommend 20 Hours in Semester 1 and 20 Hours in Semester 2.
*If working towards the Presidential Service Award (100 hours) more than 30 hours may be completed over the summer, however 10 still must be done during the school year.
