Guidelines:
Senior must have a Passing grade (at least 40 hours) for Service Learning for 9, 10, and 11 grade.
If student starts Pine Lake Preparatory after 9th grade, they must have 40 hours and a Pass grade for each year that they attend PLP.
100 hours earned in Senior year (Service Learning term is June 1 after 11th grade through April 29).
100 hours in previous grades do not apply towards cord.
Service Hours submitted by April 30.
Objective: Through meaningful service experiences, students will increase self awareness, take action, and deepen community connections that result in lifelong civically engaged citizens.
Guidelines:
Create or be involved with an organization through an event/volunteer activity that makes impact in the community.
Choose one pillar to focus on for at least 30 hours of service, commit to continual service within this pillar with a greater involvement and deeper understanding of how this service aligns to who you are, your values and areas of interest.
Take on leadership roles, if possible
Organize an event or fundraiser
Educate or increase community awareness
Students may explore additional service opportunities in any pillar or stay with their chosen pillar for their remaining service hours.
Students will communicate the impact of service learning through their senior presentation in conjunction with their Pride Projects.
(Integrate service goals with Journey Projects, awareness of self identity through service experiences, deepen community connections for sustainability as civically engaged citizen post graduation, communicate impact of service learning)
ALL GRADES:
Complete 40 hours of civic engagement, through an approved organization within the community, according to grade level guidelines.
Fill out the Service Learning GoogleSheet and validate the hours regularly. Students will download sheet during service learning training.
Use the grade level rubric to complete one reflection per semester.
Summer: Up to 30* hours allowed; 10 must be completed during the school year.
Recommend 20 Hours in Semester 1 and 20 Hours in Semester 2.
*If working towards the Presidential Service Award (100 hours) more than 30 hours may be completed over the summer, however 10 still must be done during the school year.
