All paint is made from powdered color pigment & binder
Acrylic = pigment + plastic
Oil = pigment + oil
Tempera = pigment + starch
Watercolor = pigment
The color wheel shows us how to mix colors! For example if we wanted to make green we would mix the primary colors to the left (yellow) and to the right (blue).
Primary Colors = Yellow, Blue, and Red
Secondary Colors = Green, Violet, and Orange
COMPLEMENTARY colors are colors ACROSS from each other on the color wheel.
ANALOGOUS colors are 3 or more colors NEXT TO EACH OTHER on the color wheel.
Mixing a color with a small amount of its COMPLIMENT (the color on the opposite side of the color wheel) will LOWER ITS INTENSITY.
Tint = Color + White
Tone = Color + Grey
Shade = Color + Black
MONOCHROMATIC is the use of ONE COLOR with any of its Tints, Tones, or Shades
Remember to...
A. Fill a 2in x 2in square for each sample
B. LABEL ALL of your paint samples with the NUMBER and text
Paint a square with clean hard edges in black
Load up your brush with paint
Move your brush SLOWLY
Grab a sponge from the sink and layer three (3) different colors with a sponge
Use the notes above to fill your swatch with primary colors without creating any new colors.
Use the notes above to fill your swatch with secondary colors without creating any new colors.
Start with a quarter size of yellow
Add a SPECK of purple at a time until you get sandy brown
Start with any color and SLOWLY add its compliment until the intensity of the color lowers but does not turn brown. See notes above.
Use three analogous colors to paint a camo pattern on your swatch. Use the notes above.
Paint the whole background one color and then add dots using a tint, tone, or shade of that same color.
Lay down three strips of masking tape to form a triangle. Paint any color to fill the triangle and remove the tape before the paint dries.
Pick a color, paint stripes from left to right with the pure hue, its tint, its tone, and its shade.
Using the note above paint a dark chocolate brown.
Paint stripes using one pair of complimentary colors.
Take a homedepot paint swatch from the table infront of the teachers desk. Match the color as best as possible.
Remember to include the swatch when you document your work!
