Instructions -
Value! Its the lightness and darkness of an image and helps us create the illusion of a 3 dimensional object.
In this assignment you will show your skill level by drawing an object from observation, perform some skill building drawings, and then make a final drawing from observation, demonstrating what you have learned!
Rubric:
4pt Skills. TWO Drawings (ball and cylinder) are labeled on the website. Include the block value scale, smooth value scale, and object.
Block Value Scale - 4 Values; White, light grey, dark grey, and black. Each value is different from its neighbor.
Smooth Value Scale - 4 Values are blended together with a SMOOTH transition
Object - Includes all 4 values and are blended together for SMOOTH transitions
4pts Pre-Drawing & Post-Drawing. Both drawings are LABELED! Pre and post drawings show clear improvement OR use all of the skills practiced
Skills practiced include: Smooth transitions, using white, light grey, dark grey, and black, reflected light, and shadow.
2pt Mastery - An additional skill image (pear or take out box) is reproduced with a smooth value scale and block value scale
-----
10pts Total (4 images + 1 mastery image)
Value - Darkness or lightness of an object
Value Scale - (black to white) boxes that show the range of values used
Highlight - Area left pure paper WHITE
Core Shadow - Light GREY, GREY, and dark GREY values on an object
Cast Shadow - Shadow of the object; BLACK
Reflected Light - LIGHT GREY; Light reflected off table and on underside of object; next to cast shadow; small
DO NOT use your charcoal pencil like this to make value!
Use the SIDE of your charcoal pencil like this!
DRAW WHAT YOU SEE!
Draw the apple! With shading! This is just a "pre-drawing" I will use this drawing to see how much you have improved at the end!
Visually break down the object into parts! You will use all 4 VALUES in your drawing. Do NOT us pen (this is just a learning example).
Put the values on the page. There should be 4 distinct values (white, light grey, dark grey, and black).
Use your blending stump and add more charcoal as needed! Both your sphere and the smooth value scale should have SMOOTH transitions from one value to the next.
For the final drawing, you will draw the same object again!
Remember to DRAW WHAT YOU SEE.
You must include the object and its shadow.
Remember to use BOTH pure white and pure black in your value drawing!
No value scale or smooth value scale is required.
Mastery - Reproduce one of the provided images! Include BOTH a smooth and blocked value scale.
