About the CUREs

Distinctive Learning Experiences

What is a CURE?

The STEM-CURE Program is designed to introduce CUREs (Course Undergraduate Research Experiences) in community colleges at a large scale. CUREs are high impact learning experiences that offer opportunities for students to:

  • make discoveries that are relevant and of interest to industry and the community

  • engage students in scientific practices and iteration

  • collaborate with peers, instructors and stakeholders

  • communicate their research results.

Program Vision

To systematically implement and institutionalize CUREs as a standard educational approach in community college courses. Traditionally, CUREs have been implemented in 4-year institutions and in selected mid or upper level research courses. The innovative aspect of the STEM-CURE program lays on the fact that CUREs are implemented in non-selected general or introductory STEM courses.

Program Impact

STEM CUREs increase equity and inclusion in STEM by engaging all students in research, especially those of underrepresented backgrounds, who typically start their higher education at community colleges.
