NAVIANCE STEP BY STEP PROCESS

To sign up and log in, use an Internet browser (GOOGLE CHROME) to connect to:

Go to Clever and look for Naviance

Click Naviance

Search for school’s name: Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Greenbelt, MD, 20770

Login with Active Directory

Student's type in their PGCPS username and password

Once logged in, at the top right corner, click "About Me" tab and check out all of the different inventories, surveys, resume building activities and more that will assist you in discovering the best career for you.  Start your journey now!

• If you are applying to a Common App School then create an account and then match accounts. For your reference: There is a video below on how to match your Common App account with Naviance account.

• BEFORE You “Match” Naviance and the Common App, Make Sure You Have Completed the Following Items Within the Common App: Complete the general portion of your Common App (everything under the COMMON APP tab). Add all of the colleges to which you would like to apply under the COLLEGE SEARCH tab.

• To report courses that you've taken prior to the 9th grade, or post-12th grade, please use the "Other Courses" section.

• If transcripts can be sent via Common App or electronically via Naviance then follow directions below this section.

• Students must list all of the colleges they are applying to in Naviance. Colleges that do not have a partnership with Naviance have other platforms to send transcripts and recommendations, i.e.,  Black Common App, SENDEdu or a college's platform. Check with college for that information, counselors do not know this information.

• Under "My Favorites" click Colleges I'm Applying To

• Add Colleges

• Add How You Will Submit Your Application (if you do not apply the same way you indicated in Naviance then colleges won't get your transcript or recommendations. You must submit your college applications based on what you chose in Naviance.)

• Click if you have already submitted your application (if you haven't it is okay)

• MAKE SURE TO INDICATE PROSPECTIVE COLLEGES IN NAVIANCE BY OCTOBER 1ST. School Counselors process college applications by the date you made the request.

• Be Mindful when adding colleges to make sure you are indicating the correct application date especially if you are applying via "Early Action."

• Go to Colleges I'm Applying to

• Click the Red plus (+) sign

• INITIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS: Remember only request "Initial" transcripts at this time (FALL).  When applying by November 1st, colleges will not see 1st qtr grades. Colleges will base their decision from 9th, 10th and 11th grade. Remember when requesting transcripts to indicate the appropriate date that matches when you are submitting your application, i.e., November 1, November 15, January 20, etc. 

• MID-YEAR TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS: Colleges will indicate if and when a mid-year transcript should be submitted. Be Mindful - colleges time frame and 2nd quarter grades do not always coincide. If your 2nd quarter grades have not been published on your transcript then your counselor CANNOT send your mid-year transcript. If this is the case, submit mid-year transcript request in Naviance, contact your undergraduate rep and let them know your 2nd quarter grades have not been published.  Once grades are published then counselors will upload transcripts to those specific colleges. 

• FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:  seniors will be alerted two weeks before graduation when final transcript requests can be made in Naviance. Be MINDFUL: school counselors cannot upload FINAL transcripts until the school year has ended for the underclassmen and all grades are published on transcript.

• TRANSCRIPTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS/UNOFFICIAL PERSONAL COPY - you cannot request a transcript for a scholarship or a personal copy via NAVIANCE! You will need to complete this link: https://forms.gle/zGQqgsciXouQWnGA7

BE MINDFUL: 

• Ask a teacher formally before sending a Naviance request.

• Ask the teacher if they want a resume and senior questionnaire to help write the letter.

• Ask a teacher you trust who will write a truthful recommendation about your work, work ethic and character. 

• If you want a former teacher to write a letter, they cannot USE Naviance. Former teachers can send their recommendation directly to the institution. Provide the former teacher with the undergraduate admissions email address. Make sure the former teacher includes your DOB on the recommendation. This will help the college to match the recommendation to your college application.

• Colleges/universities do not want more recommendations than they are requesting. Naviance has a LIMIT on how many recommendations can be uploaded based on the colleges/universities application requirements. 

•  Please be mindful that colleges and universities typically just want teacher and/or counselor recommendations for your applications. Double check with the institution on the requirements before requesting recommendations from multiple people. Naviance will choose the first who upload the recommendation. This also applies if you asked more teachers than the minimum requirement; other teachers can be blocked from uploading depending on who uploads first. 

• Supplemental Recommendation - if you want a coach, supervisor, administrator, or pastor to write you a letter, please check with the prospective college if they will accept supplemental letters.  Naviance will not accept supplemental letters. If the college accepts supplemental recommendations, have the individual send the recommendation directly to undergraduate admissions office.  Provide them with the undergraduate admissions email address. Make sure you they include your DOB on the recommendation. This will help the college to match the recommendation to your college application.

• Click "Colleges" from the Home page at the top

• Under "Apply to College" click Letter Recommendations

• Click teachers name (if a teacher's name is missing from the list, email Dr. Stewart - marisha.wright@pgcps.org)

• BE MINDFUL: this section is only for TEACHERS not school counselors.

DIRECTIONS TO SIGN UP FOR COLLEGE VISITS:

1. Sign in to Naviance using CLEVER

2. Click on “Colleges” tab

3. Click on “Colleges Home” in the drop-down menu

4. Scroll down to the “College Visits” section

5. Click the “Show More” button to access the full list of College Visits

6. Click the “Register Now” button for the visits you want to sign up for
