The Pennsbury School District’s renowned, award-winning and internationally recognized dramatic arts programming has roots back to the 1950’s. Participation in theater in our district helps to build students’ creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills and abilities. It’s proven that Arts education drives better outcomes towards academic success.
The Pennsbury Dramatics Program operates for eleven months of the year, rehearsing three days per week. We begin with workshops in August, and present eight productions including Thursday Night Live (TNL), Sharing Theatre and Guiding Emotions (STAGE), Fall Drama Production, Thespys Performances, Opposite Octaves Cabaret, A Night of One Acts, Spring Drama Production and Dessert Theatre. Students take full ownership of TNL, A Night of One Acts and STAGE productions. TNL and One Acts involve students writing and producing their own skits and performances, sometimes adapting full-length plays into 20-minute versions. STAGE focuses on children's theater, partnering with local elementary/middle schools to introduce younger students to theater. Our students handle all aspects of these productions, including casting, costuming, set design, lights, sound, rehearsals, and post-production strike. Additionally, we work on individual performances and programming for events such as the State Thespian Conference (where students compete for awards and scholarships), the Bucks County Playhouse Student Theatre Festival and the International Thespian Festival. Dessert Theatre is our annual end of the year production featuring student performances, induction into Pennsbury’s International Thespian Troupe 830, and a senior awards ceremony. This full-year program nurtures teamwork, creative problem-solving, empathy, leadership, and confidence in our students, building a strong sense of community through dramatics.
