Current SW 400 students: Please help us appreciate your Practicum Instructor/Site Supervisor by sharing some words about how they have impacted you.
In lieu of hosting an annual appreciation lunch for community partners, we plan to share a slideshow of student and faculty quotes of appreciation; heartfelt words of appreciation from students are deeply meaningful.

BSW Generalist: PORTLAND Metro Area Generalist Placement Process
Review Portland Metro area video overview
applications were due on March 31, 2025
A member of the practicum team will serve as your Coordinator. For Portland area students who submitted their application on time, we have started to review and match students to tentative placements. This process takes time and you shouldn’t expect to hear from your coordinator until the end of the term. If you have any questions related to your placement process, please contact the coordinator listed on your web center.
If you submitted your application after the due date, your process will unfortunately be delayed until after we have matched the first group of students.
If you are proposing an ESW, your completed application was due by April 28th. It is your responsibility to contact your assigned coordinator when your ESW application is completed to initiate scheduling the required meeting.
The Practicum Team has a very heavy workload this quarter and is experiencing reduced staffing capacity. The Practicum Director is on unexpected emergency family leave. That means a skeleton crew is placing over 750 students for the upcoming year, and we are stretched very thin. While we wish we could meet with every student one-on-one to discuss the process and individual options for each student, the reality is that our current capacity simply doesn’t allow for individual meetings at this time.
All students are matched thoughtfully and intentionally through a multi-step process. When a tentative placement assignment has been determined, your Coordinator will contact you through your PDX email to provide directions on how to schedule an interview. Due to federal funding issues and guidelines, some agencies are no longer able to host interns. It is vital that students are open to any viable practicum opportunities where they can learn and practice Generalist social work and receive educational supervision from a qualified Practicum Instructor. We appreciate your patience as the social service landscape is changing rapidly and community partners are often delayed in responding to requests from our team. Please remember to continue checking your PDX email throughout the summer for important information.
