Complete all components of the practicum course including practicum placement requirements, learning module requirements, and ePortfolio requirements. All forms may be found in the ePortfolio workbook in Google Sites.
The O&M Candidate must complete the online FERPA module and pass the quiz before the 2nd week of the course. (If working in a school setting.)
The O&M Candidate must complete HIPPA training if working in a non-school agency.
Review the entire course 554 syllabus to understand how required components fit together; the timing of the requirements and to complete your first two assignments:
FERPA/HIPAA training.
Read all clinical competency documents.
Complete all necessary policy and procedural paperwork for host school/agency.
Complete discussion board posts as scheduled each term.
Attend virtual cohort meetings as scheduled each term.
Request, schedule and complete a minimum of 1 face-to-face, observation-coaching session from O&M Cooperating Professional each term.
Request, schedule and complete 1 observation-coaching session from University Supervisor, and a minimum of one additional planned and scheduled meeting to collaborate on artifact submissions, progress toward competencies and other topics based on student need. A final evaluation session will be scheduled between the University Supervisor, O&M Cooperating Professional and O&M Candidate to discuss and complete required evaluation forms (COE Field Evaluation Rubric, ACVREP/AERBVI checklist).
Submit quarterly term time logs into Google Sites ePortfolio.
Create a minimum of 7 ePortfolio artifacts over 4 courses (minimum of two per term) that demonstrate clinical competencies; these will be reviewed by University Supervisors for evaluative feedback and coaching.
Complete necessary onsite paperwork including lesson plans & reflections.
Monitor progress toward meeting practicum experience requirements as defined in (both) Practicum at a Glance and the Collaborative Planning, Discussion and Tracking Guide.
Complete the course learning module and embedded assignments found in D2L: Maximizing O&M Services in Rural and Remote Areas by scheduled date in Spring term.
Obtain parent/guardian or client permission to complete assignments, use video and photos and work with students/clients according to how the school district or agency obtains permission;
Complete all exit procedures, including a final meeting, and submit all necessary materials on time to university supervisor and those required by Portland State University.
Google Sites is used by the O&M Candidate to create an e-Portfolio that documents the acquisition of concepts and skills, that are aligned with ACVREP and AERBVI clinical competencies and to facilitate reflective practice. The O&M Candidate may invite the O&M Cooperating Professional to view or give feedback on artifacts included in the ePortfolio. The University Supervisor will always have access to your ePortfolio.
Keep track of all required practicum components in and between multiple practicum sites.
Keep track of formal practicum evaluation and document deadlines that need to be submitted during the practicum placement and remind the O&M Cooperating Professional if needed.
Consider what you are learning from your mentor and other colleagues as a part of your practicum. You should also reflect on what you are learning about yourself. Virtual meetings and discussion posts will be used to promote reflection on how you are growing as a professional, and how you are meeting competencies. You will be asked to share an artifact with the cohort.
Maximize each learning opportunity. Remain open to and seek feedback to improve practice performance over time.
