The College of Education has identified dispositions as critical for candidates preparing to be lifelong learners, professionals, and leaders in the community. Positive dispositions promote personal growth, respect for diversity, positive professional relationships, and community engagement. Each department in the COE is committed to supporting candidates who are seeking degrees and licensure at PSU in developing these dispositions through coursework and experiences in the field.

O&M candidates must dress appropriately for the clinical working environment and exhibit professional behavior in their assigned placements. Practicum placements are considered to be an extension of PSU's preparation programs; as such, candidates are expected to follow PSU guidelines. O&M candidates must conform to the professional expectations of their placement site(s) and adhere to the College of Education dispositions; the AERBVI Code of Ethics; and by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Ethical Principles and Ethical Standards; and the ACVREP O&M Code of Ethics.
PSU’s College of Education uses a Field Experience Evaluation Guide (College of Education rubric) for all graduate programs. The O&M program has aligned this evaluation tool which reflects professional and ethical practices, values and expectations of the O&M profession. This process is used at the beginning of the academic school year and at the end of the practicum experience by the O&M candidate, the O&M Cooperating Professional and the University Supervisor and is a part of the candidate’s academic record.
If a strike goes into effect in a public school system or agency that has agreed to host a candidate, the candidate is not permitted to be present at the school or agency site.
During a strike, candidates must inform the cooperating professional and principal/program administrator that candidates are not permitted to be present while the strike is in effect. The candidate must notify their university supervisor when the strike goes into effect, and ask the cooperating professional to inform the candidate when the strike has ended.
Should a strike impact a candidate’s clinical experience, the FPO will request a waiver of candidate requirements as outlined in OAR 584-017-0042. Additional opportunities for O&M practicum experience will be sought to provide the candidate needed hours and coaching to complete the practicum.
