Like many areas of Portland annexed in the late 20th century, the Cully neighborhood has experienced decades of relative underinvestment in terms of public services, urban design, and business development. The Reimagining Five Corners project will play a role in helping to cultivate the kind of urban form Cully deserves. It is a diverse, dynamic, and strong neighborhood -- setting the stage for developments that are appropriate for Cully's character is the aim. It starts with the 5 Corners intersection, located at the heart of the neighborhood at the crossroads of Cully Blvd, NE Prescott, and NE 60th.
This is a multifaceted project that will approach community building in the Cully neighborhood from many different angles. Areas of this project will be outlined in greater detail in the tasks section of this document, but a high-level description of our efforts includes: placemaking, existing conditions inventory, pedestrian safety analysis, and economic development plans.
To accomplish this, we plan to engage the neighborhood in a robust community outreach program to ensure that our project meets the goals of uplifting all community members, improving neighborhood cohesion, and supporting economic vitality.
