Welcome

Welcome to the Portland State University Futures Collaboratory, a campus-wide interdisciplinary group of professors, students and staff founded in 2019 that is exploring futures issues with the intent to help Portland State University be more future-facing.

Developing readiness for our shared future may be the defining organizational and community need of our time. Globalization, the digital transformation, the resurgence of nationalism, climate change, and mass migrations have transformed our world in the last half century. Higher education is no exception. Shifting expectations of degree programs, increasing financial burdens on students, and the financial crisis of higher education as a whole coalesce to pose new challenges (Ascione, 2019).

In April of 2020 - we adopted this image and "motto" for our work. "The Future is Plural" is borrowed from Daniel Bengston's Principles of the Future (2018). With thanks to collaboratory fellow, Prof. Lis Charman for coordination and PSU Student Ariel Fogdon from Portland State University's A+D Program, for the design.
