The PSU Futures Collaboratory was founded in September of 2019 by Laura Nissen, Ph.D., just after being appointed Portland State's University's first "Presidential Futures Fellow" by Interim President Stephen Percy. The launch of the effort was based on late academic year 2019-2020 work that had been done to invite dialogue about the future of a variety of fields and disciplines active at PSU — and the degree to which PSU was indeed "future ready." Transcripts from these campus-wide faculty dialogues can be found on the Resources page.

The Collaboratory attracts an annual campus-wide cohort of faculty and staff who study the future of their academic research area or another topic of interest with the intent to help Portland State University be more future-facing.
